About the Author
Marcel Kornfeld is a professor of anthropology and director of the George C. Frison Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Wyoming. He is the author of seven monographs, most recently On Shelter’s Ledge: Histories, Theories and Methods of Rockshelter Research, and coeditor of Islands on the Plains: Ecological, Social, and Ritual Use of Landscapes (University of Utah Press 2003).
George C. Frison is professor emeritus of anthropology at the University of Wyoming and past-president of the Society for American Archaeology. He served as first state archaeologist of the state of Wyoming. Unquestionably the best known researcher on the prehistory of the high plains, he has been responsible for significant excavations of the Glenrock, Casper, Agate Basin, Carter-McGee and Mill Iron sites, and many others. Frison is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a prolific author.
Mary Lou Larson is a professor of anthropology and associate director of the George C. Frison Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Wyoming. She has coedited Aggregate Analysis in Chipped Stone (University of Utah Press 2004) and Changing Perspectives on the Archaic in the Rocky Mountains and Northwestern Plains.

Magnificent

This is a magnificent book -- there, I've said it. I rarely get enthusiastic about highly technical books, but this one gets my highest recommendation. It's obviously not a fun or popular book. The target audience is presumably at least semi-professionals and the more dedicated amateurs. It's not even all that well written. But it certainly is thorough. What makes it also thoroughly enjoyable is the freedom with which the authors (and especially Bruce Bradley, a chapter contributor) were allowed to speculate about what it all might mean. It's worth slogging through the details precisely because the authors then spend a few precious pages telling how they think it may all fit together. There's the usual "give me a two million dollar grant and ten years and maybe I'll be able to prove something" and the "further studies are required to explain the significance of ... ," but much more of the "between you and me, I think it's going to turn out to be ... ." Sure, any reader might disagree. Everyone has their own pet theory about anything we really care about. But think of it this way. If you actually had to stand George Frison a bunch of beers to get his personal speculations, it would end up costing more than this non-cheap volume. This way,you save money and get all the cites, too.

Great for book

This book is great for helping me with dig sites and tools identification along the high plains area. I recommend this book for anyone person that is working on their archaeology degree.
