Very practical reference source for various switcher design issues

I've purchased this book and am writing this review not because Sanjaya is my friend and former colleague at National Semiconductor (while both are true). I bought this book because it happened to be the most complete source of information found online through a rather non-trivial search combination used after several other more simple searches haven't produced satisfactory results. I was searching for a published reference material that would support my hypothesis regarding a root cause of synchronous buck converter IC failures. It was possible in the buck design that the failures were caused by a pre-biased output condition leading to the pre-biasing voltage getting boosted to the input thus potentially exceeding absolute maximum rating of the converter IC. The Google search combination that returned link to this Sanjaya ‘s book among the first several hits was "buck boosts pre-biasing output voltage" and it pointed to page 356 where I found descriptions of several such scenarios, which coincidentally I investigated about 10 years ago at National. At this point I had to buy the book. I highly recommend it as a very practical reference source for various switcher design issues.

Excellent book for understanding power supply design.

This is a very good book for learning details about power supply design. This is a big subject, so there are a lot of things covered in the book. I found this book to be well worth the money. It covers the multiple topologies you will see out in the industry. He explains the pros and cons of each one. Covers power supply compensation, inductor design and specification, component power dissipation ... It is nice to get an idea where all the design equations in the datasheets come from. You will have a good handle on power supply circuits after reading this book.

Great book on EMI

Definitely a great book detailing each and every EMI issue related to power supplies and talks about how to overcome them. I haven't seen any power supply book that talks about EMI as this author did. Chapter 8 has powerloss equations for a mosfet during turn ON, turn OFF. He made everything look simple. A great chapter. Learned alot. For compensation you need to look at this book and his book on optimization to get a complete idea. Both books are really good which give plenty of details. Also the magnetics selection of high current converters is very well explained in this book.
