If your are a fellow nursing student like me I personally would opt out of buying this ...

I had to purchase this for school. It is helpful but in my case only a few chapters were covered and if you look online you could find the same info for free. If your are a fellow nursing student like me I personally would opt out of buying this if it is not required only for the above reason. Otherwise the book is helpful.

author errors!

I'm working through this book right now for my nursing pharm class. The author errors are starting to really drive me crazy. I am trying to go into the back of the book to check my work, and the author explains the wrong question under the question I am trying to find! I've come across multiple other errors as well. Aside from the errors the book is relatively well made and explains the math well. If they could fix all the author errors it would be a great book!

Simple math

I've always been a math person and was disappointed that this was a required book for nursing school because the problems for me felt like busy work.

If you do have trouble with math, this book will be helpful in which it includes step by step solutions for practically every problem in the back of the book. The solutions are shown in two formats: Proportional and Dimensional Analysis.

I do enjoy that it includes a plastic pocket units/formula guide.

About the Author

Gary Rockswold has been a professor and teacher of mathematics, computer science, astronomy, and physical science for over 35 years. He has taught not only at the undergraduate and graduate college levels, but he has also taught middle school, high school, vocational school, and adult education. He received his BA degree with majors in mathematics and physics from St. Olaf College and his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Iowa State University. He has been a principal investigator at the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, publishing research articles in numerical analysis and parallel processing and is currently an emeritus professor of mathematics at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is an author for Pearson Education and has over 10 current textbooks at the developmental and precalculus levels. His developmental coauthor and friend is Terry Krieger. They have been working together for over a decade. Making mathematics meaningful for students and professing the power of mathematics are special passions for Gary. In his spare time he enjoys sailing, doing yoga, and spending time with his family.

Terry Krieger has taught mathematics for 18 years at the middle school, high school, vocational, community college and university levels. His undergraduate degree in secondary education is from Bemidji State University in Minnesota, where he graduated summa cum laude. He received his MA in mathematics from Minnesota State University - Mankato. In addition to his teaching experience in the United States, Terry has taught mathematics in Tasmania, Australia and in a rural school in Swaziland, Africa, where he served as a Peace Corps volunteer. Terry is currently teaching at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota. He has been involved with various aspects of mathematics textbook publication for more than 14 years and has joined his friend Gary Rockswold as coauthor of a developmental math series published by Pearson Education. In his free time, Terry enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys, physical fitness, wilderness camping, and trout fishing.

About the Author
Stephen Olejniczak is the Director of Operations for ATI, and has over 14 years of experience in telecommunications. His experience is focused on installation, service, and support of voice service with a growing responsibility for delivering VoIP. He’s the author of Telecom For Dummies and a snappy dresser.
Stephen didn’t start out in life as a techie, only falling prey to the glamour and easy money after failing to find a career enabling him to use his Bachelors degree in Cultural Anthropology. He currently lives in the quaint hamlet of Laguna Beach, California with his beautiful wife Kayley and a collection of fountain pens.

Brady Kirby is the owner of Atlas VoIP and has been programming since he was 13 years old. The initial challenge of writing small screen savers in qbasic wasn’t enough for him and by the 10th grade he worked his way up to the strong stuff — game programming. It was at this tender age that Brady accepted his calling. He realized it was his lot in life to make the world a better place, solving people’s problems, by evolving inventive software.
Brady spends his free time with his son, Brady Kirby III, in the crucible of technology and engineering, Huntsville, Alabama. Surrounded by many tech companies, and that space program we have (we think it’s called NASA), they enjoy the good life with large helpings of lasagna and good Mexican food. It’s in this environment that Brady III is mentored in all aspects of programming by his father. Maybe to write his own For Dummies book someday.

(Useless) -- Revised: Not the best book, but has some useful info

This is the first book in the "for Dummies" series that I have bought. I do not consider myself a "dummy", an idiot or a moron, but there are few books on Asterisk basics and this book is rather new, so I thought I would give it a chance. My mistake...

I am using two Linksys/Sipura ATA, one SPA3102 and one PAP2T, this book only covers TDM-cards and Zapata drivers. There is nothing useful on dialplans/extensions, and not much useful on other subjects either. I do not know who the intended audience for this book would be, and I find it hard to believe that a "dummy" or anyone else would be able to do anything useful with Asterisk using this book as guide or reference.

Buy some other book, or just google for the information you need. The latter will be much quicker, more productive and less frustrating. (If anyone wants a slightly used specimen of this book, you can pick it up for free in Stockholm, Sweden.)

I have used a bunch of different books on Asterisk, and information from the web, since I wrote this review. I have realized that I was a bit too harsh when I first wrote this. There are better books on Asterisk, but I must admit that I have found some useful information in this book on some occasions.

If you are going to buy one or two books on the subject, I would probably recommend starting with Asterisk: The Future of Telephony and Building Telephony Systems with Asterisk, in this order.

I am also looking forward to the printed edition of the English translation of Practical Asterisk 1.4: From Beginner to Expert (the translation in progress is available at [...] with a link to the German original). I have found the alpha version of the translation very useful on several subjects.

If you are thinking about using this as a guide for trixbox installation (formerly asterisk@home) think again. Not very helpful. :-(

Quite Nice

Officer Olivia Dennis comes from a family with strong, unwavering beliefs. For her whole life she has tried to be the perfect child for her rigid parents. She even became a cop like her father, the former sheriff (who still keeps his eyes on the department), and her brother. Olivia has a secret that could totally leave her life in personal ruins if it is brought to light. Her semi renegade ways on the street have gotten her transferred and assigned to the C5 Unit and a desk while her last case is investigated.

Hillary O’Neal is a dispatcher for the C5 Unit. She is an out lesbian who refuses to pretend to be anything less. After a fatal accident Hillary sort of looses it for a while. Olivia (Hillary's high school crush) befriends her and helps her through the aftermath. Her real trouble is her crush is back and worse than ever. Can she really handle being Olivia's friend? Will Olivia stand by Hillary in spite of her family's staunch values? You will have to read the rest to find out.

This book is a true romance. It is well written and technically sound. I liked seeing the characters grow, expand their horizons, and become, in Olivia's case, the woman she so desperately wants to be. For me this wasn't a book I had to read all at once. The gentleness of the story allowed me to put it down until was ready in my favourite places to pick it back up. This was nice for me. I didn't feel like I missed any of the emotions of the story and was able to become immersed in the story every time. Never having read anything my Ms. Dutton before I must say I will be keeping an eye out for her.

interesting characters, drama to keep it ticking over, and some very funny dialogue.

Veteran emergency dispatcher, Hillary O’Neal, was great at her job and well respected by her colleagues on both sides of the airwaves. However, a harrowing call that hounds her dreams also crushes her ability to do her job.

While Hillary is trying to come to grips with the aftermath of that call, a bold but risk-taking deputy, Olivia Dennis is assigned to a security desk in the communications department. Olivia also faces the potential for the end of her career while an internal investigation goes through one of her cases.

Supporting each other through these tough times, Hillary who is openly gay, and Olivia who isn’t, start dealing with the attraction they feel for one another.

Dutton is the author of 8 previous romance novels. Her experience is evident in Officer Down, with tight and often laugh out loud funny dialogue. The main characters were interesting and believable. The narrative structure is simple but effective and the pacing good enough for me to want to read it in one sitting. Actually, it took me two days, but only because work got in the way. I really enjoyed it, and will be looking out for her other books.

Solid entertaining book. The romantic couple were likeable and the novel written well. While the love story took centre stage, it was just as much about police on patrol and those behind the scenes, as well as family dynamics and tolerance. I can certainly recommend this book as a good read.

As a blind buy, but still needing an upper-elementary level book on Archimedes, I was more than happily surprised to see what an absolute gem this book was! Well written, easily understood, yet not too basic, the author weaves and explains scientific and mathematical principles in a story-like form that entranced my homeschooled fifth-grader. This is one he'll want to read over and over--not a book he felt he "had" to read. I highly recommend its purchase.

Helpful but not that helpful

This book is suppose to do a number of things according to its covers:
1. "Illuminates the Two Initial sections of the GMAT"
2. "Teaches Effective Strategies for the New IR Section."
3. "Enables Optimal Performance on the Argument Essay"
4*. This book is also "Updated for The Official Guide for GMAT Review 13th Edition"
(*I am sure some of you are wondering why #4 is relevant. I will get to that point in a bit.)
5. "Includes 6 Free Online Exams"

To rate this book, I will explain whether this book delivers the above 5 promises on the cover.

IR section:

Long story short, this book does indeed provides comprehensive overview of IR section.
So item #1 on the cover is true.
At first, I thought it was organized little bit weird because this book breaks down the problem types into two types (IR quant and IR verbal) instead of the actual problem types (table, graphs, etc).
However, this approach works and helped me understand what these problems are about.

On the flip side, I didn't feel that the "strategy" in the book was very good.
Below is the strategy of the book:
1. Understand the prompt
2. Understand the question
3. Plan your approach
4. Solve the problem
I mean, come on. I don't need to buy a book to know this "4 step approach".
I was hoping to get some tips on how to get through the problem quickly because I kept running out of time during practice test.
This book didn't really help in that regard.
So item #2 was not true for me.

Essay section:

Again, this book provides comprehensive overview of essay section as it did for IR section.
So item #1 on the cover is true.

It also gives you insight on how essays are graded and how you can improve your essay score.
This really helped me figure out the right writing style to use for essay section.
Essay section is not like Verbal and Quant section where you can check the score after taking a practice test.
There is really no way to know how well you are doing with Essay section unless you buy the essay grading software from MBA.com.
I was rather nervous about essay section but this book provided some good insight and that was very helpful.
So I would say item #3 on the cover is true.

When you read through the essay section of this book, this book basically advertises "The Official Guide for GMAT Review 13th Edition". It literally tells you to go to Chapter 11 of "The Official Guide for GMAT Review 13th Edition".
Why the hell do I need to buy another book to use this book? Why isn't this book a standalone product?
I wouldn't say this is a bait-and-switch but it is kind of like a bait-and-switch.
So item #4 on the cover is true but in a bad way.

5. "Includes 6 Free Online Exams"

When studying for GMAT, I realized that it is very important to build mental stamina, to familiarize myself with the GMAT problems and to train myself to work under time pressure.
When I was studying, I did as many practice exams as possible.
Manhattan GMAT website provides 6 practice tests (1 free + 5 paid) that are invaluable to test takers.
I found these tests rather difficult but it was really helpful because the actual GMAT was easy compared to the practice test.
Also, note that this book is much cheaper than the full version of the book but provides the same access to practice tests.

In conclusion, I gave this book 3 start because it only delivers 3 out 5 promises on the cover.

1. "Illuminates the Two Initial sections of the GMAT" - Good. This book provides comprehensive over view of IR and essay sections.
2. "Teaches Effective Strategies for the New IR Section." - Bad. Strategy in this book is basically pointing out the obvious and was not helpful
3. "Enables Optimal Performance on the Argument Essay" - Good. Explains how essays are graded and how to improve the score.
4*. This book is also "Updated for The Official Guide for GMAT Review 13th Edition" - Bad. This book basically advertises the full version of the book.
5. "Includes 6 Free Online Exams" - Good. Extra practice test for cheaper price.

So-so resource

I was really disappointed in this book. It barely tells you any strategies for the questions other than read the question and use the skills you learned from quant and verbal. And there are no practice problems, just a few examples. There are some practice essay prompts, but they basically tell you if English is your first language and you write well you don't need to worry about the essay because most B-schools won't even read essays that score a 4 or better. The only good thing about purchasing this book was access to the "six" practice exams. I put six in quotation marks because one of the free tests is available to everyone without buying anything, and I had already taken it before buying this book. It is not a full exam and does not include IR or essay practice. So really you get 5 full length practice exams by buying something from Manhattan. HOWEVER if you buy any of the other Manhattan books you also get these tests- they only have 5 tests total available with the same questions no matter how many books you buy. I am glad I have access to more practice tests but this is a really weak resource. If you want a much better explanation of IR with strategies for the section, targeted strategies for each question type and lots of practice problems check out Cracking the New GMAT 2013. I got it from my library for free.

It is a good book, but a little too pricey for me due to delivery cost.

The good thing is that the book actually relaxes you about the IR section. Shows you how to look beyond the questions. Some of the strategies are helpful and when I started reading them I actually developed some on my own. There isn't much to practice on in the book but they do give you a special code in the end page for 6 full-length computer adaptive exams which are very useful considering how hard it is to find full exams. But what the book did for me is that it taught me how to overcome the panic and annoyance with the IR questions. I actually started to enjoy them and appreciate their trickiness. The Writing Strategy Section was ok, it points out the things that you should bear in mind to get a high grade. In general, I am very happy with the Manhattan books, they have helped a lot! Especially with Math so I would recommend them all, including this one.
