Incredibly Good Book on Nutrition with Diet Tips Added

THe book is 256 pages long and it takes the form of Dr. Reuban's previous sex books (Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex but Were Afraid to Ask.etc). A person basically asks a questions in bold headings and he answers it with a wide variet of wit and style. It feels just like Dr. Reuban is right there talking to you the person.
The book premise is very simple. The majority of the things the media tells us is wrong. Very wrong. So wrong that he tells us that much of our diseases and troubles involving the body (cancer, diabetes,etc) can be prevented if we simply take the precautinos he tells us in this book. His diet, or what you can do to be healthy can be summed up in one sentence:Eat food in their natural form, these being fruits and vegetables, and other forms of food in their natural form. He rants on the FDA and The Food Industry. He makes the Food Industry into monsters.
The book is good. Very good in fact that I gave it five stars for I totally agree with the premise that the main thing causing for Americans, including me, to become unhealthy is simply the additives and preservatives added. Reuban goes on to say that the chemicals found in our food cause cancer and even sperm count. He also says in the book that the reason non-industrialized countries like Georgia have much less of cancer and diabetes is because their food is natural.
To sum up his diet: Eat things in their natural form regardless of the fat. Don't buy food where the ingrediants are unpronunciable. Don't buy refined sugar, or enriched bread. Don't drink soda. I recommend you also get his other book: The Save-Your-Life Diet. Don't worry if its out of print. It can probaby be found in a used book store.

A truth-packed book with facts & no fiction about nutrition.

I read Dr. Reuben's book 20 years ago to answer some questions I had about the big vitamin fad that was happening. Unfortunately, I did not read his book in its entirety, but got the answers I was searching for - - mainly that I did not need suppliments, but that a year's supply of vitamins would fill a thimble. Today I am in a nutritional Ph.d. program, and thought I should revisit Dr. Reuben's book. I could not put the book down. It has humor and an honest approach to a subject that it is impossible to find the truth because everyone wants a piece of my pocketbook! I laughed, I cried in horror at the things I read. I am grateful that Dr. Reuben was brave enough to tell the Emerior he had no clothes. You will regret NOT reading this book!

Everything You Always Wanted To Know-Nutrition by Reuben MD

The author is a proponent of the health food diet regimen.
He recommends not to consume junk food in order to minimize vitamin deficiencies. The work explains the following about
vitamins, cooking and canning:
o 30% of vitamins are lost in cooking/canning
o 25% of the vitamin content is lost in sterilization
o 27% of vitamins are lost in sterilization
o 12% is lost when you heat the contents of a can
In addition, the book promotes Vitamin B. Fried liver provides
vitamin A. Lemon juice is a good source of the vitamin C.
Brewer's yeast and B12 magnifies the B 12 vitamin. He explains
that natural vitamins are better than synthetic vitamins.
Soil impacts vitamins. Too much iron can produce fatal E-coli
whereas too little dietary vitamin can result in general lethargy. Dietary iron is in meat, whole wheat and whole bran.
This book is an excellent value for any health professional
or enthusiast.

Tip 2: Divide the Kitchen Into Zones
�
The kitchen functions at its best when it’s set up in zones. There are five main zones: cooking, preparation, cleaning, storage, and food. Everything in your kitchen should fit into one of these five categories. If you have an item that doesn’t fit, it may not belong in the kitchen.
�
A. COOKING Your cooking space should include spices, oils and vinegars, cooking utensils, pots and pans, pot holders, trivets, and other tools.
�
B. CLEANING All things related to cleaning your kitchen should be in this zone, which is typically centered around the dishwasher and kitchen sink. Categories include kitchen cleaners, under the sink items (sponges, paper towels, microfiber cloths, trash bags, dishwasher detergent), recycling bins, and trash cans.
�
C. PREPARATION Everything needed to prep meals goes in the preparation zone. Items might include mixing bowls, knives, cutting boards, kitchen gadgets, blender, and other appliances. Specific areas will form within this zone, like the baking and school lunch stations
�
D. STORAGE Items in the storage zone include food containers, silverware, dishes, glasses, and small appliances.
�
E. FOOD The pantry is considered the food zone. If you don’t have a pantry, designate a few cupboards or a standing cabinet in which to store food items.

The most concise organizing book in a gorgeous package!

I have read several home organizing books, but *this* is the one I have been waiting for!

The first thing I noticed right away is that there is no skimping on quality, here. The colors are vibrant, the paper is nice and glossy and thick. The corners of the front and back covers are metal-tipped, which is nice because not only does it give the book weight, but it protects the corners from bending and fraying. Inside, the pictures are plentiful, inspiring, and gorgeous. Just flipping through the book will make you feel motivated enough to start tackling an area of your house!

The book is broken down into various "challenge" rooms - kitchen, dining room, garage, etc. Each room is then broken down into specific tasks, which you can follow along in the 15 week time frame, or go at your own pace. There are tons of ideas on saving space, organizing, and lest you feel overwhelmed at the state of your current household, the author has also many suggestions on how to start the process (which is sometimes the hardest part). If you follow the book page by page, at the end of roughly 15 weeks your home will be clean and organized! The best part is that you can work at your own pace. The process is manageable enough that you can do a little bit every day...or set aside a couple of hours on the weekends and knock out an entire room in one swoop.

It's clear that the author has spent a lot of time compiling this book. It is well written and detailed enough for those that need someone to point the way step-by-step, but it also leaves room for those that are not complete novices to join in the fun. There are tons of ideas that I've never seen on any other blog or website, which was refreshing. The book stands on its own, but you can also pair it with the suggestions and printables found on the author's website.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and hope the author decides to write a Volume 2!

It made me realize how hanging on to "stuff" helps us not become the best we can be

I was so excited to receive this book after pre-ordering it in November. A year ago January I had just lost my Mom and also inherited all of her things and her home. Not only did this challenge help me organize my own home and belongings but hers as well. It made me realize how hanging on to "stuff" helps us not become the best we can be. The 14 week challenge helped me get my life and brain functioning again, my house still stayed in order a year later. This book is beautiful and informative and it will serve as a constant reminder of how wonderful it is when your house is in order. Toni is the guru of organizing and helping you see all you are capable of in your own home and life. A+

Gorgeous Package, Lacks Helpful Content

The book itself is gorgeous (which is why there are 2 stars). The pages are thick and lovely, the cover is gorgeous with corner protectors, and the photographs are beautiful. Unfortunately, original content is lacking. The book follows the same plan that is available free of charge on the author's website. While the pictures are excellent, the items used by the author for organization are not sourced; or, if they are, I'm unable to find them. If your desire is to have a pretty coffee table book, then this would suffice. If, however, you are looking for real organizational guidance, this is an expensive way to go about it. I would suggest the free plan on the author's website instead.

THE FORBIDDEN BOOK uses over 200 political cartoons from 1898 to 1906 to chronicle a little known war between the United States and the Philippines. The war saw the deployment of 126,000 U.S. troops, lasted more than 15 years and killed hundreds of thousands of Filipinos beginning in February 1899.

The book's title comes from a 1900 Chicago Chronicle cartoon of the same name showing then-President William McKinley putting a lock on a book titled "True History of the War in the Philippines." Today, very few Americans know about the brutal suppression of Philippine independence or the anti-war movement led at that time by the likes of writer Mark Twain, peace activist Jane Addams, journalist Joseph Pulitzer, steel magnate Andrew Carnegie, labor leader Samuel Gompers, and Moorfield Storey, first president of the NAACP.

The book reveals how the public was misled in the days leading to the war, shows illustrations of U.S. soldiers using the infamous "water cure" torture (today referred to as "waterboarding"), and describes a highly publicized court martial of soldiers who had killed prisoners of war. The election of 1900 pitted a pro-war Republican president against an anti-war Democratic candidate. In 1902, the Republican president declared a premature "mission accomplished" as the war was beginning to expand to the southern Philippines.

The book shows political cartoons glorifying manifest destiny, demonizing the leader of the Filipino resistance President Emilio Aguinaldo, and portraying Filipinos, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Hawaiians, Chamorros, and other colonials as dark-skinned savages in need of civilization. These images were used to justify a war at a time when three African Americans on average were lynched every week across the south and when the Supreme Court approved the "separate but equal" doctrine.

More than a century later, the U.S.- Philippine War remains hidden from the vast majority of Americans. The late historian Howard Zinn noted, "THE FORBIDDEN BOOK brings that shameful episode in our history out in the open... The book deserves wide circulation."

An astounding collection of full-page political cartoons at the turn of the 20th century that will open one's eyes to U.S. imperialist ambition as told through the colonization of the Philippines.

Interesting and revolting at the same time. Benevolent Assimilation? Little Brown Brother? Images of Filipinos as savages... or of the Philippines as a woman hoisted and carried away like a sack... or of rotund Uncle Sam standing tall and cocky alongside supposedly humbled European imperialists? Caricatures of Mark Twain as an anti-imperialist? Accusations of "traitors" of those who were against the U.S.-Philippine War? You won't believe your eyes. Or you will.

Can you ask the hard questions and get the hard answers? Did you know that there was a U.S.-Philippine War? Immediately after the filipino rebels revolted against spanish rule, U.S. armed forces came to take over the country, and the Filipinos did not want it. Many Filipinos and Americans died fighting---one side fighting for freedom, the other fighting for imperial power. Philippine history books do not publish this.

A Real eye-Opener

This book is a real eye-opener, and not just because the cartoons it contains are so striking and vivid. "The Forbidden Book" brings to light a side of U.S. history that is too often "whited out." The volume's stunning images show how Filipinos were de-humanized in the U.S. media in order to build public support for an unjust war. The fact-filled, concise text that accompanies the cartoons fills in the historical background. (There is also a useful timeline and extensive bibliography) Both words and images draw the link to the racist depictions of African Americans that were prevalent within the U.S. at the time of the Philippine American War.

Like many other outstanding history books, this one is also relevant to the challenges we face today. Most Americans have "tuned out" of the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and (with 50,000 troops still present) Iraq, thinking they are too costly, wrong, or just plain unwinnable. But de-humanizing images of Arabs and Muslims in the media don't just fuel bigotry, they make it harder to find ways to replace endless fighting with negotiations, diplomacy and peace. Therefore reading "The Forbidden Book" will do more than reveal new information about the past. It can help us think about the present and future. Overall, this is an outstanding and thoroughly-researched volume with an excellent, multi-colored print job. I give it five stars.

Of no real use to a beginner

Most of the book consists of patterns for various types of checkering. This is very nice and lets the experienced checkerer employ a variety of unusual designs.
However, the book is useless if you don't already know how to checker. The photographs don't show the process in sufficient close detail to enable one to discern what's going on; the pictures of the tools are not detailed enough in general and the text is near-worthless.
The text is some kind of folksy patois that is annoying and non-informative. The authors of the various sections cannot distinguish between irrelevant detail and the main points. Everything is weighted equally and nothing is well-described. I am trying to learn how to checker and after reading this book I still have no idea what the tools look like, which ones do what and how to use them.
If you think you might like to checker or work on gunstocks, don't buy this book.

More funny than useful

I found the writing style, with its poor grammar, distracting. On the other hand I liked Monty Kennedy's sense of humor.
My advice for those who are interested in learning how to checker is this:
First, choose hard, fine grain wood to practice on.
Second, ensure the wood is as smooth as possible and all grain is filled with varnish--this makes the checkering process less error prone. Uneven material surface and grain is likely to cause your tools to deviate from the your chosen path.
Third, don't use too fine a checker or the diamonds will break off.
Fourth, purchasing a decent set of tools.
Fifth, scribe your reference lines and trace your outline pattern and go at it.
Sixth, your best bet is to skip the book and practice on smoothly prepared sample material.
Seventh, don't get discouraged if your intitial results are not perfect, keep practicing, making smaller items like pistol or knife grips before tackling bigger projects. Be sure the grips are entirely shaped, smoothed, and finished, with holes drilled before you start checkering.
The book is good for some sample pictures, but these can easily be duplicated by a visit to your local gun shops to study finely checkered stocks. In fact you will get a better idea of what you like by studying many gun stocks.
The book is good for it's dry humor, which is sure to give you a few chuckles. I liked the book but did not feel it was worth the price. Invest your money in a set of tools.

About the Author
Michelle A. Green is a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Physical and Life Sciences Department at the State University of New York, College of Technology, Alfred (also called Alfred State College). An active member of the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Ms. Green has been recognized both for her excellence in teaching and for her significant contributions to the Health Information Management profession. She has earned numerous awards, including the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, Alfred State College's Alumni Association Teacher of the Year, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and the FORE Triumph Educator Award from the AHIMA. Ms. Green is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA), and a Certified Procedural Coder (CPC). She earned a BS from Daemen College and an MPS degree from Alfred University. Yawatta is also an avid reader, favorite genres: mystery, thriller, horror, and women's fiction. Her short story "Room For Two" is published in the online literary magazine The Write Place At the Write Time (Spring/Summer 2013 edition).

Fun read that keeps you wondering if she ever ...

Yawatta has excellent writing skills. This book did feel a tad rushed though, but not sure how it could have embellished a little bit more. She covered the story well but it just left me with wanting a little more. The ending was a tad unexpected and left me with a "WTF, I didn't see that coming" moment, but in a good way.

Finia is a nice character, and you just keep wishing for her to grow some backbone and see through Miki. She is just too nice of a person. Miki, wow, I admit I can't stand him, which is exactly what the author wants! This book reminded me a bit of war of the roses though.

Definitely a fun read and enjoyable.

The name says it all

Just read this and can say the name says it all. I ended up getting this one from the unlimited kindle books after seeing the author asking for reviewers on Goodreads. Miki has a very TWISTED OBSESSION with Fiania and no one best get in his way...

Dark and Surprising!

Obsession has become a very popular writing trope but, here's the thing - not everyone can write obsession well. Ms. Hosby is excellent at crafting dark, violent tales and I truly enjoyed this engaging short read. A quick glimpse: Miki desperately wants Finia's love back in his life but he's not just garden variety desperate - he's crazy desperate. The writing flowed, allowing me to easily slip into each character's viewpoint - particularly Finia. While far from weak, she did allow Miki's madness to drive them all to the edge of cliff (speaking only figuratively!) and that made me want to smack her cheek and tell her, "Buckle up baby, and hit the gas pedal until he's gone form your rear view mirror". Overall, Ms. Hosby has created a wonderful piece of fiction and I highly recommend it as a good, quick read!
